Senior bureaucrat Sharf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury has been appointed as the new secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, following a recent government reshuffle, according to an official notification issued on Wednesday (June 17).

A gazette issued by the Ministry of Public Administration confirmed that Chowdhury, who was serving as the Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka, has been elevated to the rank of secretary and posted to the ministry with immediate effect.

Officials said the promotion came as part of the government’s routine administrative restructuring, after which he was formally assigned to the vacant post of secretary at the Ministry of Textiles and Jute.

Earlier on June 9, the then secretary of the ministry, Abdun Naser Khan, was transferred to the Ministry of Industries, leaving the position vacant.

Following the latest decision, Chowdhury has been appointed to fill the post, completing the administrative reshuffle.

With his new assignment, he is expected to take charge of key policy and administrative responsibilities in the textiles and jute sector, one of the country’s major export-oriented industries.
