Sheikh Hasina ordered 'no treatment', 'no release' at hospital: Tajul Islam
Muhammad Tajul Islam, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), said that during her visit to a hospital in late July 2024, Sheikh Hasina instructed the authorities not to provide treatment to any victims of the mass uprising and not to release anyone.
He shared this information during a press briefing on Sunday (February 23) at the prosecution office's conference room.
Tajul Islam said, "We (the prosecution) visited the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), commonly known as Pangu Hospital, to speak with the victims of the July-August mass uprising and their families. The victims receiving treatment at the hospital informed us that Sheikh Hasina visited the institute on July 27 and instructed the doctors and hospital authorities with orders of 'no treatment' and 'no release'."
In response to a reporter's question, the ICT chief prosecutor added that the hospital authorities were unable to perform autopsies on the bodies of the martyrs of the July-August mass uprising and did not issue death certificates, as per the administration's orders.
"Even after the victims were killed by gunfire, their families were given death certificates stating that they died from fever or some other illness. The police also attacked families who were attempting to bury their loved ones or attend the burial," he added.
