Sheikh Hasina will get full security and legal rights if she returns: Dr Zahed Ur Rahman

Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina will be given full security and will enjoy all constitutional and legal rights if she returns to the country, said Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman. He made the remarks while responding to journalists' questions at the weekly press briefing of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the Secretariat on Tuesday, August 11.

Dr Zahed Ur Rahman said Sheikh Hasina will face the judicial process safely if she returns. As a defendant in court proceedings, she will have all the rights that an accused person is entitled to. Everyone must accept the court's final decision. This is a democratic state, and even an individual accused of the most serious crimes has civil and constitutional rights.

He said the rights of everyone, whether Sheikh Hasina or Shakib Al Hasan, will be ensured in accordance with the law and the Constitution. The government does not want to return to any fascist or mafia-style system of governance and will not allow such a system to be established in the future.

When asked about Shakib Al Hasan's return to the country, the adviser said if someone wants to return and face legal proceedings, there is no reason to fear for their safety. Upon returning, the individual will have to face the allegations and legal matters against them. However, if they participate in the judicial process in accordance with the law, the government will ensure their security.

Responding to questions about individuals associated with the previous government still holding positions in various government institutions and media, Dr Zahed Ur Rahman said merely being a supporter of a political party does not disqualify anyone from holding public office. Unless a person faces criminal charges, they can continue to perform their duties.
