Sherpur Jamaat leader murder: Case filed naming 234, 500 others unidentified
A murder case has been filed three days after the killing of Rezaul Karim, 42, secretary of Sherpur’s Sreebardi Upazila Jamaat, during clashes between BNP and Jamaat activists in Jhenaigati.
The case names 234 individuals, while 400–500 others remain unidentified defendants.
The deceased’s wife, Marzia, filed the case at Jhenaigati Police Station at late Friday (January 30), confirmed police.
District Jamaat Ameer Maulana Hafizur Rahman confirmed the filing, saying Karim was killed on Wednesday (January 28) during a political manifesto announcement in Jhenaigati. He called for the swift arrest of those involved and exemplary punishment, but declined to provide details on individual accused.
Sources indicate that several senior BNP leaders and activists at various levels have been named in the case.
Meanwhile, a protest rally and demonstration were held in Sherpur town on Friday afternoon to demand justice for Rezaul Karim. Organised by the district Jamaat, the march began at Maisahaba Mosque, circled the main streets, and concluded at the DC gate.
Speakers at the gathering demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and urged authorities to take strict action against the perpetrators.
