Shirin Sharmin shown arrested in Lalbagh police station case
Former Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has been shown arrested in a case related to the anti-discrimination movement in the capital's Lalbagh police station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) Joint Commissioner Md. Nasir Uddin confirmed the matter on Tuesday (April 7).
He said that there are a total of six cases against Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in different police stations in the capital. Out of these, she has been shown arrested in a case from Lalbagh police station.
Regarding when she will be produced in court, he said, 'We are working on the matter, it will take some time.'
Earlier, ADC NM Nasir Uddin, spokesperson for the Media and Public Relations Department of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said that she was arrested from a relative's house early Tuesday morning and preparations are underway to send her to court in a specific case.
It is worth noting that Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury resigned from the post of Speaker on September 2, 2024, after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government. Earlier, he took office as Speaker on April 30, 2013 and served in this position for a long time.
