Shomi Kaiser released on bail in attempted murder case

Actress Shomi Kaiser has been released on interim bail from Kashimpur Central Women's Jail in connection with an attempted murder case filed over a political protest in Uttara.

She was released around 10:40pm on Thursday (August 14), confirmed Additional Inspector General of Prisons Jahangir Kabir.

A High Court bench comprising Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice Md Jabid Hossain, passed the bail order on Sunday. The matter became public the following day.

According to the case statement, on August 4, 2024, gunfire erupted during a protest in the Azampur area of Uttara, allegedly involving Awami League supporters. Zubair Hasan Yusuf, a student of Tongi Government College, was among the protesters.

Zubair filed a case on August 22, naming 11 individuals including Shomi Kaiser, and accusing 150 to 200 unidentified people of attempted murder and other charges.

Law enforcement officers arrested Shomi Kaiser on November 5, 2024, from her residence in Uttara Sector-4. She was shown arrested in the case the following day.
