‘Shoot and kill me instead of filing cases repeatedly’, model Misty arrested in another case

Model Simu Akhtar Brishti alias Misty Subas has been shown as arrested in another case. Dhaka’s Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Tajul Islam Sohag ordered her to be shown as arrested in an attempted murder case filed centering the anti-discrimination student movement on Sunday.

On this day Misty Subas was produced in court from jail. Investigating officer of the case Sub-Inspector (SI) of Ashulia police station Atowar Rahman applied to show her as arrested in this case. Her lawyer Golam Rabbani opposed it. After the hearing the court allowed the application for showing as arrested, informed lawyer Golam Rabbani.

During the hearing the state side presented arguments in favour of showing Misty Subas as arrested. At that time standing in the dock Misty Subas sought permission from the court to speak.

Getting permission she told the court, ‘As the child of a freedom fighter I went to place flowers at the memorial. This cannot be any crime. A deep conspiracy is being hatched against me. Cases are being filed against me one after another as soon as I get bail. I have not done any wrong. Shoot and kill me instead of filing cases repeatedly.’

Later defence lawyer Golam Rabbani applied not to show her as arrested. After the hearing the court ordered Misty Subas to be shown as arrested in this case and sent to jail.

It has been said in the allegation of the case that on August 5, 2024 adolescent Md Abir had joined the anti-discrimination student movement at Baipail Mor area of Ashulia police station of Dhaka. At that time armed men of Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League attacked the protesters. Abir, who is the plaintiff of this case, was seriously injured by the bullets fired by them. An attempted murder case was filed at Ashulia police station on October 31, 2024 over this incident.

It has been said in the application of the investigating officer that preliminary information has been found in the investigation that Misty Subas played a direct and indirect role as an associate of the FIR-named accused in the shooting incident during the anti-discrimination student movement in Baipail area of Ashulia in July-August 2024. It is necessary to show her as arrested in this case in the interest of proper investigation of the case.

Misty Subas came into discussion over the incident of raising various slogans including ‘Joy Bangla’ and ‘Joy Bangabandhu’ at the National Memorial in Savar on March 26. On that day police detained her on the allegation of standing with several leaders and activists of the banned organisation Awami League in front of the main pedestal of the National Memorial.

A case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act over that incident and she was shown as arrested. Later she got bail in that case. However, even after getting bail she could not come out of jail. Because after that she was shown as arrested in other cases one after another.
