Shop owners' association want shops open from 11am to 8pm
The Bangladesh Shop Owners' Association has demanded a review of the government's decision to close shops, markets and shopping malls after 6pm to save energy.
The organization has requested the Prime Minister to allow shops to open from 11am instead of 9am and remain open until 8pm.
A press release sent by the association said that the decision was taken at an emergency virtual meeting of the standing committee on Friday (April 3).
The release further said that the association has decided to 'specially request' the Prime Minister to reconsider the timings of all shops, business centres and shopping malls in the country, considering the 7 million shop owners and traders as well as 25 million employees.
The press release was signed by the organization's President Md. Nazmul Hasan Mahmud and General Secretary Md. Arifur Rahman Tipu.
Meanwhile, it was seen in different areas of the capital that several shopping centres and markets were open even after 6pm, ignoring government instructions on Friday evening (April 3).
