Signal No 3 at four sea ports as low pressure forms over Bay

A low-pressure area has formed over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas. As a result, squally weather may affect the country's sea ports and coastal regions. The Met Office has advised the Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra sea ports to hoist local cautionary signal No 3.

The warning, signed by meteorologist Md Shahinul Islam, was issued on Sunday, August 16.

The Met Office said the low-pressure system is likely to bring squally winds over the North Bay, the sea ports and the adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh. The sea may also remain rough.

In this situation, the four sea ports have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No 3. Authorities have been asked to monitor the situation and take necessary precautions.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

The low-pressure system may cause weather to deteriorate in coastal areas. All vessels in the sea have been advised to exercise caution and follow Met Office directives.
