The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued Storm Warning Signal No. 3 for all sea ports and Signal No. 1 for inland river ports, effective today from 10:00am to 6:00pm.

According to the special weather bulletin, temporary gusty or squally winds at speeds of 45 to 60 km per hour from the south or southeast, accompanied by rain or thundershowers, may sweep over the regions of Faridpur, Madaripur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, and Cox's Bazar.

It added that river ports in the affected areas have been instructed to hoist warning signal no 1.

The department’s marine warning indicates that clouds are forming over the northern Bay of Bengal due to an active seasonal wind. This may bring strong or gusty winds to the northern Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh’s coastal areas, and sea ports. The Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra sea ports have been instructed to display local warning Signal No. 3.

Fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay of Bengal are advised to remain close to the coast and navigate cautiously until further notice.

The Meteorological Department also warned that a low-pressure system could develop in the northwestern Bay of Bengal and nearby areas by Monday (August 25).
