‘Silent expel’ returns to SSC exams

The system of ‘silent expulsion’ or ‘silent expel’ will remain in effect to ensure discipline and transparency in the current year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams.

This information has been revealed from the recently published SSC exam conduct guidelines.

In public exams, a ‘silent expel’ or ‘silent expulsion’ is done by the invigilator on duty for violating the rules (such as talking, turning his neck, looking at the exam) or behaving badly in the exam hall without being caught red-handed. In this, the examinee does not immediately realize that he has been expelled but later his exam paper is cancelled.

The instructions state that if a candidate is expelled or silently expelled due to misconduct or any other reason, the cover page of his/her creative answer sheet should be prepared correctly in the confidential form provided on the board website along with the invigilator's report without tearing the first part, and as soon as the subject and paper examination is completed, the creative answer sheet of that candidate should be packaged separately, written in red ink clearly on the packet, and submitted separately to the office of the Controller of Examinations in the box/bag of other answer sheets of the center.

It further states that in case of silent expulsion, the reason for silent expulsion should be clearly mentioned in the invigilator's report. Silently expelled candidates should be allowed to participate in the next examination with good reason. However, even if he does not resort to unfair means in the examination of the next subject, the creative answer sheets (without tearing the first part of the cover page) and the impersonal answer sheets of all the subsequent subjects must be submitted separately to the office of the Controller of Examinations in a separate packet, in the center's answer sheet box/bag, along with a report stating the subject, letter and reason for silent expulsion for each subject and paper.
