Six Bangladeshis killed in ongoing Middle East conflict
At least six Bangladeshi nationals have been killed in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam said on Friday (April 3).
Speaking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while receiving the body of a migrant worker from Bahrain, she said the bodies of three victims have already been repatriated.
The minister noted that the conflict has created visa-related complications for Bangladeshis living in several Middle Eastern countries. She said the government is engaging diplomatically with relevant authorities to resolve the issues, including extending visa validity.
She added that necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of Bangladeshi expatriates in the region.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said the government will support the victims’ families.
He noted that Tk 35,000 has been provided for burial expenses, along with an additional Tk 50,000 in assistance, while families will receive up to Tk 10 lakh under insurance benefits.
