Six held on suspicion of militant links, placed on 3-day remand
A court has granted a three-day remand for six individuals arrested on suspicion of having links with militant organisations from the Mini Cox's Bazar area in Konapara, Jatrabari, capital.
The six were produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam in Dhaka on Sunday, July 5. The court granted the remand following an application by Jatrabari Police Station.
The individuals remanded are Shah Amanat Sabir, Hossain Tanim, Junayed, Ataullah Shah, Abidur Rahman and Bayozit. They were arrested early Sunday morning around 6:30 am.
In the application submitted to the court, Jatrabari Police Station Inspector A B Siddique said based on intelligence, police learned that individuals linked to a militant group had gathered for training at a sand field adjacent to the land of the Amin Mohammad Group. When police conducted a raid, they attempted to flee but were detained.
Police claimed the arrestees failed to provide satisfactory explanations for their gathering. Based on intelligence and preliminary investigation, they are suspected of having links with militant organisations.
Police applied for a seven-day remand under Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code, but the court granted three days.
The arrestees were produced in court under tight security on Sunday morning and were taken away after the hearing.
