Law enforcement officials have recovered six sound grenades near the main entrance of Bangladesh Supreme Court (SC), adjacent to the Chief Justice’s office, around 1:30pm on Sunday (March 8).

However, no casualties or property damage were reported. The identity and motive of the individual(s) who left the grenades remain unknown.

According to court and eyewitness sources, suspicious objects were spotted near the Chief Justice’s entrance earlier in the afternoon and immediately reported to Shahbagh Police Station. Police quickly cordoned off the area and strengthened security measures.

Acting on the information, a specialist team from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Bomb Disposal Unit arrived at the scene and, following examination, safely removed and neutralised the grenades by 2:00pm. All items were subsequently secured as evidence.

Following the incident, security around the Supreme Court has been further tightened, and authorities have launched an investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage and other intelligence, to identify those responsible.
