Sixth day of testimony, cross examination concludes in Chankharpul murder case

Testimonies and cross-examinations in the case filed over the killing of six people in the capital’s Chankharpul area during the July mass uprising continued for a sixth day on Thursday. The case, involving crimes against humanity, names eight accused, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman.

The proceedings took place at International Crimes Tribunal-1, with a three-member panel headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mojumder. The other members of the bench are Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Justice Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

The tribunal has fixed Sunday, September 13, for the next round of testimony.

On Thursday, two eyewitnesses—Md Tipu Sultan and Md Moniruzzaman, both shopkeepers from the capital’s New Market area—gave their statements before the court.

The prosecution was led by Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim. Prosecutors Faruk Ahmed, Shahidul Islam, and several others were also present during the hearing.
