Skin can be donated for Milestone victims
Following a crash of a Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet at Milestone School and College in capital's Uttara, skin donation is urgently needed to save the lives of seriously burned students.
Doctors at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute have said that many students have suffered severe burns over large parts of their bodies. Skin grafting is now their only chance for survival. The doctors describe the situation as critical and life-threatening.
According to sources at the Burn Institute, after hearing the news on social media, some citizens have voluntarily shown interest in donating skin. So far, at least six women have registered to donate skin.
Asif, reception officer at the Burn Institute, told Views Bangladesh, “Blood tests for interested donors will be conducted from 8.00am to 2.00pm on Friday. After the tests, eligible donors will be contacted for the next steps.”
Quoting doctors, he added, “Skin is usually taken from the thigh area, which poses no significant health risk to the donor. The wound typically heals within two weeks, and permanent scarring is minimal.”
For more details about skin donation, please contact the reception desk at the Burn Institute. Those interested are encouraged to reach out to the appropriate unit promptly.
