Newly elected Speaker Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has said that while walkouts are a customary practice in parliament, raising slogans inside the House is not appropriate and goes against parliamentary tradition.

He made these remarks while speaking to journalists after paying tribute to martyrs at the National Memorial in Savar on Friday morning.

He told journalists that he would ensure neutral umpiring in parliament, much like in cricket.

The Speaker said, "We have achieved a democratic parliament through immense sacrifice. I hope we will be able to fulfil the people's dreams in the days ahead. We will all make unified efforts to build a prosperous Bangladesh."

Major Hafiz also commented that both the ruling party and the opposition will move forward on the path of Bangladesh's development.
