Sohag murder case: Trial of 21 accused begins, testimony from July 19
The trial of 21 accused in the murder of Sohag, a scrap trader, in front of Mitford Hospital has begun. A Dhaka court has framed charges against the accused and set July 19 for the start of testimony proceedings.
Judge Mosaddeq Minhaj of Dhaka's First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order on Sunday, July 12.
Of the 21 accused, 10 are in jail, 8 are fugitives and 3 are on bail. The three on bail appeared in court along with the 10 from jail. The accused pleaded not guilty and demanded justice.
According to the case, Sohag was murdered with concrete blocks in front of Mitford Hospital on July 9, 2025. A video of the killing went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage. Most of those involved were known to the victim and some were former business associates.
The victim's sister filed the murder case at Kotwali Police Station. The charge sheet was submitted on May 10 this year, and the trial formally began on Sunday.
