Sohel accused of creating confusion in Ramisa murder: Police
The police think that the main accused Sohel Rana has brought forward the name of another person named ‘Dollar’ to spread confusion and delay the trial in the murder case of child Ramisa of Pallabi. The police have once again stated that no one other than Sohel and his wife Swapna Akhter was found at the scene during the investigation.
On the way from the court to the jail, Sohel shouted that a person named Dollar had raped and killed the child on Monday. According to him, he only cut Ramisa into ‘two pieces’.
Regarding this claim, Pallabi Police Station OC Hasan Basir said that during the investigation, no one other than Sohel and his wife was found at the scene. He believes that Sohel is saying these things to delay and confuse the trial.
When asked whether someone named Dollar exists, the OC said, ‘We have confirmed in various ways that no one else came to the scene. Now he (Sohel) may say these things as a last attempt to save himself. He is very cruel in nature. Even after cutting a small child into pieces and killing him, he has not shown any remorse. That is why he is trying to make the matter controversial in a very clever way.’
In the court, Sohel loudly told the lawyers and people present, ‘I did not rape, I was just cutting the body. A person named Dollar raped me. I am committing a sin, punish me for that sin.’ He claimed that Dollar had offered him two lakh taka if he could bring the girl back. At that time, the police stopped him.
On the way to the jail, Sohel told reporters, ‘Dollar is raping, Dollar is also beating him. You guys, you will get everything.’ He claimed, ‘My wife did not help me. My wife is not at fault. Dollar is at fault. I am at fault, Dollar is also at fault. I am not that guilty. I am just cutting the child into two pieces. Dollar is raping, Dollar is also beating him. He did not take any DNA test from me. He took it automatically. Dollar gave me two lakh taka. Dollar is a very rich man, a money-maker.’
OC Hasan Basir further said, ‘Sohel’s wife Swapna has made it clear to us that no one else came to the scene except her husband. He (Sohel) can now do all this to delay the trial or to take the incident in a different direction.’
The mutilated body of child Ramisa was found in a flat in Section 11 of Pallavi on May 19. According to the police, 32-year-old Sohel, a resident of the flat next door, raped the child that morning, slit her throat, severed her head from her body and escaped by cutting the grill. His wife Swapna was in the same room at the time of the incident.
The incident sparked widespread outrage across the country. Senior government officials including Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed assured Ramisa’s family of speedy trial. After just five days of investigation, the police filed a chargesheet on May 24. Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal ordered the formal trial to begin by framing charges on Monday.
