‘Speak slowly, please’—Deputy Speaker to minister-state minister in parliament

Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal has told Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad and State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, “Speak slowly, please,” while a parliament member was speaking in the National Parliament.

The incident took place during the discussion on an attention notice on a matter of urgent public importance in the National Parliament on Monday.

Selina Sultana, parliament member of the reserved women’s seat, was speaking at that time. Meanwhile the Religious Affairs Minister and the Local Government State Minister were seen standing and talking in the parliament chamber. When the matter came to notice the Deputy Speaker told them, “Honourable Religious Affairs Minister and Honourable LGRD State Minister, please sit down and speak. Someone behind you is speaking. Speak slowly, please.”

At that time when Selina Sultana continued her speech the Deputy Speaker asked her to stop. Thereafter he again told the Religious Affairs Minister and the Local Government State Minister, “Sit down and speak slowly and gently so that we can hear her words.”

After this direction of the Deputy Speaker there was no further discussion on the matter in parliament.
