Speaker forms committee to implement e-Parliament

Steps have been taken to implement an e-Parliament system with the aim of establishing a paperless, modern and technology-driven parliament.

On Sunday, September 6, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed held a courtesy meeting with Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, MP, and committee members Nayab Yusuf Ahmed and ABM Mosharraf Hossain at the Jatiya Sangsad.

During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the need to implement an e-Parliament system to make parliamentary activities more dynamic, modern and technology-dependent. The proposed system will have both Bengali and English versions, making parliamentary document management, information storage and exchange easier, faster and more efficient.

The Speaker has directed the formation of a committee headed by the Deputy Speaker to implement the e-Parliament system. The committee will review the proposed system's structure, implementation process, required technical infrastructure and other related matters before taking necessary actions.

The Speaker also directed that a presentation on the e-Parliament system be given later this month, covering the system's working procedure, technical capacity, implementation plan and other important aspects.

It was noted that implementing the e-Parliament system would be a significant milestone for the current government. The system would allow various parliamentary activities and documents to be managed digitally, reducing paper usage, saving time and administrative costs, and increasing speed, efficiency and coordination in parliamentary affairs.

Decisions have also been made to contact UNDP, donor countries and organisations to ensure necessary technical and other cooperation for project implementation. Their assistance will be sought in the next phase as needed. The e-Parliament system is being considered an important and timely step towards establishing a paperless and technology-driven parliament.
