Speaker returns from Qatar after delivering PM's condolence message to Emir

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, MP, returned to Dhaka early today (July 16) after a brief official visit to Qatar, where he delivered Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's condolence message to Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani following the death of the former Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The Speaker arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 3:00am, concluding a two-day visit to Doha.

During the visit, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad formally conveyed Bangladesh's condolences to the Qatari leadership and handed over the Prime Minister's message to the Emir. He also expressed sympathies on behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh to the Qatari royal family, praying for the eternal peace of the late former Emir.

According to a Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat press release, the Speaker also held a bilateral meeting with Qatari Shura Council Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, where they discussed issues of mutual interest and parliamentary cooperation.

The visit underscored the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and Qatar, as well as Dhaka's solidarity with the Gulf nation during its period of national mourning.
