Special committee reviews 120 July-related ordinances: Law minister
Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said that 120 of the 133 ordinances issued during the interim government have been reviewed. The review process gave utmost priority to the 'July Charter' and the country's constitution. Notably, all members of the committee agreed on the four ordinances related to July. Discussions on the remaining ordinances will resume on March 29.
He shared this information with journalists after an adjourned meeting of the special committee held at the Cabinet Room of the National Parliament on Wednesday, March 25. The meeting began at 2:00 pm that day.
Earlier, the first session of the meeting was held on Tuesday, March 24, at 11:00 am. This special committee was formed on March 15 under the chairmanship of Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
The primary responsibility of the committee is to review the 133 ordinances issued during the interim government and decide which will remain in force as permanent laws and which will be repealed.
The law minister had tabled these ordinances in the first session of parliament on March 12. According to parliamentary rules, a final decision on these matters must be made within the next 30 working days.
The meeting, chaired by committee president Zainul Abedin, was attended by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam, Muhammad Osman Faruk, A M Mahbub Uddin, State Minister for Public Administration Md Abdul Bari, Muhammad Nowsad Zamil, State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin, Md Mujibur Rahman, Md Rafiqul Islam Khan, and G M Nazrul Islam.
Committee members said a final recommendation will be prepared after detailed discussions on the remaining 13 ordinances at the March 29 meeting, which will later be presented to parliament.
