Special committee to amend constitution by Sunday, hints Chief Whip
A special parliamentary committee of 15 to 20 members may be formed very soon to advance the constitutional amendment process, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni said.
He said that there are plans to include government party, opposition party, other political parties and independent parliamentarians in the committee. According to his indication, progress in the formation of the committee can be seen by next Sunday.
He said these things in response to questions from journalists after the third meeting of the parliamentary committee of the 13th National Parliament on Wednesday (April 1).
The Chief Whip said that efforts are being made to form an inclusive committee with the opinions of all parties to advance the constitutional amendment.
He said that we want to have representatives of all parties in a proportional ratio, and independent members will also be included.
Regarding the size of the committee, he said that it could be between 15 and 20 members, but it has not been finalized yet. In addition to legal experts from the government and opposition parties, representatives of different parties will also be included in it.
He also said that we want to amend the constitution in such a way that there is no need for repeated changes.
Regarding the participation of the opposition parties, the Chief Whip said that they will also be included in the committee and urged everyone to work together.
Earlier, the implementation of the July Charter and constitutional reform were discussed in the parliament. There, proposals were made by the government and opposition parties to form a special committee.
The parliamentary meeting also recommended improving the sound system of the parliament building, increasing the speed of the internet, providing clean water, and quickly completing the allocation of housing for MPs.
It was also announced that several initiatives would be taken to solve the technical and infrastructural problems of the parliament building.
