Special parliamentary committee reviews 40 ordinances in first meeting
The newly formed special committee of the National Parliament has held detailed discussions on 40 important ordinances issued during the interim government's tenure.
In its first meeting held at the Cabinet Room of the Parliament Building on Tuesday, March 24, the committee conducted thorough analysis of various important ordinances, including those related to protection and responsibility determination concerning the July uprising.
Presided over by committee chairman Zainul Abedin MP, the meeting began with a minute of silence and special prayers seeking forgiveness for the souls of students and civilians killed in the July 2024 uprising.
The special committee discussed several administrative and important ordinances. Notable among these include: July Uprising (Protection and Responsibility Determination) Ordinance, 2026; Enforced Disappearance Prevention and Remedy Ordinance, 2025; Police Commission Ordinance, 2025; and Anti-Corruption Commission (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.
Additionally, detailed discussions were held on the Government Job Direct Recruitment Maximum Age Limit Determination Ordinance, 2024; Father of the Nation's Family Members Security (Repeal) Ordinance, 2024; and Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.
The Parliament Secretariat said the committee will thoroughly examine the necessity and appropriateness of the discussed ordinances and submit a detailed report to the National Parliament session at the earliest. Discussions and reviews of the remaining ordinances will be held in subsequent meetings.
Committee members present at the meeting included Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed MP, Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam MP, and Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman MP.
Also present were Dr Muhammad Osman Faruk MP, A M Mahbub Uddin MP, Public Administration State Minister Md Abdul Bari MP, Muhammad Nawshad Jamir MP, Social Welfare State Minister Farzana Sharmin MP, Parliament Secretariat Secretary Kaniz Mowla, and senior officials from concerned ministries.
