Special prayers held at Baitul Mokarram, mosques nationwide for Khaleda Zia
Special prayers were offered at Baitul Mokarram National Mosque and mosques across the country seeking forgiveness for the departed soul of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The doa mahfil was held after Jummah prayers at Baitul Mokarram on Friday, January 2, with worshippers and members of the public taking part.
After Jummah prayers, Baitul Mokarram khatib Maulana Abdul Malek led the doa and munajat at the national mosque. Ordinary worshippers joined the prayers, many of whom were seen shedding tears while praying for Khaleda Zia.
Before the prayers, condolences were expressed over the death of Begum Khaleda Zia. During the munajat, worshippers prayed for the forgiveness of her soul and asked Almighty Allah to grant her a place in Jannah.
Under the initiative of the BNP and its affiliated and associate organisations, similar doa mahfils were organised nationwide, with party leaders, activists and general worshippers participating. Special prayers were offered for the forgiveness of Khaleda Zia’s soul and for her to attain Jannatul Ferdous.
The programme was observed simultaneously at mosques in Dhaka and in Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions. In many places, imams and khatibs remembered Khaleda Zia’s political and social contributions during post-prayer supplications.
Today marks the third and final day of state mourning observed across the country following the death of Begum Khaleda Zia. A gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday declared three days of state mourning from Wednesday, December 31, to Friday, January 2.
On the final day of mourning, the national flag continues to be flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government and autonomous institutions, educational establishments, private buildings and Bangladesh missions abroad.
