Special team led by attorney general formed for Ramisa case hearing
A special team has been formed to represent the state during the High Court hearing of the high-profile Ramisa rape and murder case. Attorney General Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal will lead the team.
The Attorney General confirmed the matter on Thursday, June 11.
Other members of the team include Deputy Attorney Generals Barrister Osman Chowdhury, Mehedi Hasan, Jamiul Haque Faisal, and Assistant Attorney General Dewan Humayun Kabir Ripon.
The Attorney General stated that he will personally participate in the argument hearing of the case at the High Court and that the state's lawyers have made full preparations. A decision has also been made not to file any adjournment pleas during the hearing .
He said that in order to expedite the disposal of cases related to violence against women and children, the Chief Justice has formed a special bench. The hearing of this case will be held before the bench led by senior judge Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty .
He further informed that the Ramisa murder case is expected to be included in the High Court's cause list for hearing on Sunday, June 14 .
Earlier on June 9, the death reference in the case—documents sent by the trial court to the High Court for confirmation of the death penalty—along with the verdict, was sent to the High Court .
On June 7, the Dhaka Metropolitan Children's Violence Suppression Tribunal sentenced prime accused Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akter to death for the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa Akter in the capital's Pallabi area .
