The Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) is launching special women-only bus services in Dhaka and two other cities to ensure safe and comfortable travel for women. The service will be inaugurated on Tuesday at 10am at the BRTC Dhaka Truck Depot in Tejgaon. Buses will start operating from the evening, with regular services beginning Wednesday.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam will be the chief guest at the inauguration, with State Minister Habibur Rashid and concerned secretary Dr Mohammad Ziaul Haq also in attendance. BRTC Chairman Abdul Latif Mollah will preside.

Multiple routes have been designated in the capital, including Motijheel, Jatrabari, Mohammadpur, Kallyanpur, Mirpur, Jowarsahara and Gazipur. In Chattogram, buses will run on the Kalurghat-Kaptai Road and Kalurghat-Patenga routes, and in Bogura, two buses will operate on the Sherpur-Matidali route.

Although BRTC has previously operated women-only buses, the service could not be sustained due to limited numbers and passenger shortages. The new initiative aims to expand safe travel options for women, including working women and students.
