We won as a nation due to spontaneous participation: EC Sanaullah
The spontaneous and widespread participation of the people in the 13th National Parliament elections has proven that we as a nation have ultimately won, said Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah.
He said this in his closing remarks at the official results announcement ceremony at the EC Building in Agargaon in the capital at 11 am on Friday (February 13).
The Election Commissioner said, “We had only one commitment to the nation – to organize a fair election. We have tried our best to implement that commitment. We are deeply grateful to the people of the country, because they have also spontaneously participated in this grand event. This has proven that we as a nation have ultimately won.”
He also said that the commission did not see organizing the election as just a constitutional responsibility; rather, it has taken it as a sacred trust. He also commented that the various fears and apprehensions that were previously heard surrounding the election have been dispelled by the large turnout of voters.
Expressing his hope that Bangladesh's democracy will never deviate from its set path, Sanaullah said, "We hope that this election will be a model for organizing more improved and acceptable elections in the future."
Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, Akhtar Ahmed and other officials concerned were present at the time.
