State Minister for Foreign Affairs has renounced British citizenship: Law Minister

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir has renounced his British citizenship, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said. He said the government has done everything in accordance with the constitution.

The law minister disclosed this information at an event in the capital on Tuesday. A memorandum of understanding was signed among the Legal Assistance Department, the Department of Social Services and the Department of Women's Affairs at that event.

The law minister said, "State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir has renounced his British citizenship. There has been no violation of law (in his taking oath). Whatever the government is doing, it is doing in accordance with the constitution."

He said, "The government is working to ensure the rule of law and human rights by putting an end to the culture of politically motivated false cases, enforced disappearances and crossfire." He also claimed that no false case has been filed with police as plaintiff since the government was formed.

The law minister said, "If any victim cannot afford to hire a lawyer on their own, the state will stand by them. The government is also working to ensure legal protection for marginalised and disadvantaged communities."
