State minister mourns death of three family members in Saudi road crash

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of three members of the same family from Faridpur who were killed in a road accident in Saudi Arabia while travelling to perform Umrah.

In a condolence message issued on Friday night (July 24), the state minister prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased and conveyed her heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.

Describing the incident as "deeply heartbreaking," she said the loss of three family members in a single accident while on their way to the holy city of Makkah was a tragic event.

She also wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the crash.

According to reports, the accident occurred on Thursday (July 23), around 3:00pm (Bangladesh time), shortly after the family had departed from Riyadh for Makkah. The crash reportedly took place about 300 kilometres from Riyadh.

The deceased have been identified as Tania Tahmina Rina, 45, daughter of late Nazimuddin Molla, former chairman of Atghar Union Parishad in Saltha upazila of Faridpur, along with her 20-year-old son Tasbik and 15-year-old daughter Zara. All three died at the scene.

Rina's husband, Shafiqul Islam Khokon, and their elder son, Nabil, sustained serious injuries in the accident. They are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital in Saudi Arabia.
