Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman said that the government has taken all-out steps to quickly repatriate the bodies of two Bangladeshi students killed at the University of South Florida in the US.

He gave this information in response to a question raised by Jamalpur-2 constituency member AE Sultan Mahmud Babu in Parliament on Tuesday (April 28).

The Foreign Minister said that the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington and the Bangladesh Consulate General in Florida have been working actively since the tragic incident. They have maintained round-the-clock contact with the families of the deceased, the concerned university authorities and the local administration.

He further said that in addition to completing the necessary legal procedures, the issue of sending the bodies home quickly is under the special supervision of the government.

Mentioning that the security of expatriate Bangladeshis is given top priority, the minister said that the government is working to make the embassies a center of trust for expatriates. Consular assistance has been strengthened, especially for the rescue, safe shelter and repatriation of Bangladeshis in the war-torn Middle East.

In addition, the embassies have been instructed to coordinate with the law enforcement agencies of the relevant countries to take prompt action in case of incidents of violence or insecurity against Bangladeshis anywhere in the world.

He also assured that the government is continuing diplomatic activities at the domestic and international levels to ensure the safety of expatriates.
