Storm likey in Dhaka, 10 other regions by noon

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a weather warning for Dhaka and 10 other regions, forecasting temporary gusty winds of up to 60 kilometres per hour along with rain or thundershowers by this midday (June 8).

In a river port warning bulletin valid until 1:00pm on Monday, the Met Office said that Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet may experience temporary squalls from the south or southwest at speeds ranging between 45 and 60 kmph.

The weather system is also likely to bring rain or thunderstorms to the affected areas, raising concerns over rough conditions on inland waterways.

In view of the forecast, the Met Office has advised river ports in the warned regions to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 1 from 5:00am until 1:00pm.

Authorities have urged vessel operators and residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious and follow weather updates as conditions may deteriorate rapidly during the warning period.
