Storm with winds upto 80km likely in seven districts by evening

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecasted that a powerful storms and thunderstorms may hit six coastal and southern districts by Wednesday evening (May 27), with wind speeds expected to reach up to 80 kilometres per hour.

In a weather bulletin issued for inland river ports from 10:30am to 6:00pm, the Met Office said Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar may experience temporary gusty or squally winds blowing from the west or northwest.

According to the forecast signed by meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque, wind speeds in these districts could range between 60 and 80 kilometres per hour, accompanied by rain and thunderstorms.

In response, authorities have advised river ports in the affected areas to display signal number two as a precautionary measure.

The weather office also warned that other regions of the country may experience gusty winds of 45 to 60 kilometres per hour along with thunder showers and lightning. River ports in those areas have been instructed to hoist signal number one.

The latest forecast comes amid ongoing unstable weather conditions across the country, with intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms already disrupting normal life and Eid holiday travel in several regions.
