Storms likely in 14 districts including Dhaka by noon

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forcasted that a temporary rain or thundershowers accompanied by strong gusty winds in 14 districts across the country, including Dhaka, by this noon.

In a warning issued for the country’s inland river ports, valid from 5:00am to 1:00pm on Sunday (May 17), the weather office said winds blowing from the west or northwest could reach speeds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour in several regions.

The affected districts include Rangpur, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Kushtia, Faridpur, Madaripur, Cumilla, Noakhali and Sylhet.

The BMD said the weather system may trigger temporary rain or thunderstorms alongside gusty or squally winds in these areas.

Due to the risk of adverse weather, inland river ports in the affected districts have been advised to hoist Signal No. 1.

The meteorological department also urged river vessels and local authorities to remain cautious while navigating waterways during the warning period.
