Storms, rain likely nationwide, temperatures may rise
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty winds across different parts of the country over the next several days, with chances of moderate to heavy rainfall in some areas.
Despite the rain, daytime temperatures may rise slightly nationwide, it said.
In its weather bulletin issued on Thursday (May 28) for the next 24 hours from 9:00am, the BMD said an extension of a low-pressure area stretching from West Bengal to the northern Bay of Bengal is influencing the current weather pattern.
According to the forecast, many areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds. Scattered rainfall is also likely in parts of Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Some areas across the country could receive moderately heavy to heavy rainfall.
The weather office said daytime temperatures across the country may increase slightly, while night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
In Dhaka, winds may blow from the south or southwest at speeds of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour. Relative humidity in the capital was recorded at 91 percent on Thursday morning. Sunset in Dhaka is expected at 6:40pm, while sunrise on Friday will be at 5:12am.
The BMD also forecast thunderstorms and rain for Friday in many areas of Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Barishal and Khulna divisions, as well as at several places in Rangpur, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
On Saturday, scattered rain or thundershowers may continue in different regions, while rainfall activity is expected to intensify from Sunday. Chattogram division, in particular, may experience moderate to heavy rainfall.
On Monday, many areas in Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions are likely to receive rain, with chances of heavy downpours in some places.
