Storms, rain likely throughout week, heatwave may ease

Amid ongoing mild to moderate heatwaves in various parts of the country, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has said that the trend of storms, rain and thundershowers may continue throughout the week.
According to the 120-hour forecast starting from 9:00 am on Friday, June 5, an extension of a western low-pressure system lies from West Bengal to the northern Bay of Bengal. Additionally, the south-westerly monsoon wind may advance up to the Cox's Bazar coast within the next 48 hours.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds may occur in some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, the forecast said.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible in some places, which may gradually lower day and night temperatures slightly. However, due to high humidity, the weather may remain uncomfortable.
The spread of rain may increase further in various parts of the country from Sunday to Tuesday. Moderate to heavy, and in some places very heavy, rainfall is particularly likely in Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
Heatwaves are currently sweeping over several areas, including Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur and Barishal. The meteorological department said parts of these heatwaves may gradually subside.
