Storms, thunderstorms likely in 15 regions by noon

Squally winds accompanied by rain or thundershowers may sweep across 15 regions of the country by noon today, with wind speeds ranging between 45 and 60 kmph, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said.

In a forecast for inland river ports issued at 4:00am on Saturday (March 28), the Met Office advised river ports in the affected areas to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 1.

According to a warning signed by meteorologist Dr Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik, the regions likely to be affected include Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Pabna, Bogura, Dhaka, Tangail, Mymensingh, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla and Sylhet.

The forecast also indicated that gusty or squally winds from the west or northwest may be accompanied by rain or thundershowers.

River ports in these regions have been advised to remain under cautionary signal No. 1 until further notice.
