Storms, thunderstorms likely to lash 17 districts by tonight
There is a risk of temporary stormy winds blowing over 17 districts of the country by tonight. At the same time, the Meteorological Department has forecast rain along with lightning in these areas.
This information was shared in a warning message issued for the country's inland river ports on Thursday (June 25).
The Met Office stated that by 1am, gusts or stormy winds blowing from the east or south-east direction at a speed of 45 to 60 km per hour may pass over Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, and Sylhet regions. There is also a possibility of rain or thundershowers during this time.
For this reason, the river ports in the respective areas have been asked to hoist cautionary signal number 1.
The Meteorological Department further informed that an extension of a low-pressure area extends from Gangetic West Bengal to the Northwest Bay of Bengal. In addition, the monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and is in a weak to moderate condition in the North Bay of Bengal.
Meanwhile, until Friday (June 26) morning, light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning flashes, may occur at many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, and at a few places in Rajshahi and Khulna divisions.
Along with this, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of the country. However, day and night temperatures are likely to remain almost unchanged, according to the Meteorological Department.
Meteorologists have advised people not to stay near open fields, rivers, or water bodies during lightning, and not to leave their homes unless necessary.
