Any kind of irregularities or mismanagement during Eid travel will be met with immediate strict action, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam has said.

He made these remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting the capital's Sayedabad Bus Terminal on Saturday, March 14.

The Bridge Minister said about 1.5 crore people may leave Dhaka over the next three days ahead of Eid, which is a major challenge for the government. However, efforts are underway to tackle this situation with the government's existing capacity. He informed that the Prime Minister himself is constantly monitoring the Eid travel situation.

Expressing satisfaction over the overall situation at the terminal, he said all buses are departing on schedule so far, and no major schedule disruptions have been observed. No complaints of overcharging passengers have been received either. The passenger pressure is currently at a moderate level.

The minister further informed that CCTV cameras have been installed at bus terminals and monitoring has been strengthened. While nine magistrates previously performed duties, now 24 mobile courts are operating. Additionally, highway police patrols have been increased.

He also mentioned that petrol pumps across the country will remain open for a total of 12 days before and after Eid.
