Students of Dhaka College have withdrawn their blockade from the Science Lab intersection after nearly an hour of protest demanding amendments to the Dhaka Central University Act 2025 and condemning Monday’s clash between teachers and students on campus.

At around 11:25am on Tuesday (October 14), the students cleared the road and returned to campus following a request from the college principal. Vehicular movement, which had been halted during the demonstration, resumed shortly afterward.

Earlier in the morning, higher secondary students of Dhaka College gathered at the Science Lab intersection, carrying banners and placards and chanting slogans calling for revisions to the proposed university act.

The protesting students claimed that certain provisions of the new Dhaka Central University ordinance threaten to abolish the college’s intermediate section, which they said would destroy the century-old legacy of one of the country’s oldest educational institutions.

On Monday (October 13), a scuffle broke out between teachers and students of Dhaka College as students from seven affiliated colleges were preparing to march in favor of the act’s quick implementation. During the altercation, teachers reportedly detained a student in the common room for making a “dalal” (agent) remark. Other students then surrounded the administrative building and freed their fellow student.

Later, higher secondary students joined their undergraduate peers in the confrontation.
