Students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University block Agargaon road, traffic disrupted
Students from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University have blocked the Agargaon area in the capital, pressing for the resolution of three major demands. This has led to traffic halts between Mirpur-10 and Bijoy Sarani, as well as from Shyamoli to Tejgaon, causing significant inconvenience for commuters.
The blockade began around 11:30am on Thursday (August 28) when students gathered at the Agargaon intersection. The protest was organized by the Krishibid Oikya Parishad, following a decision made the night before. The council later confirmed the plan through their Facebook group.
The students are demanding the opening of 10th-grade positions at the Department of Agricultural Extension, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), and other research institutions exclusively for agricultural graduates. They also want the promotion opportunity to the 9th grade removed unless individuals pass the recruitment exam, along with the elimination of the BADC quota. Additionally, they are calling for a government notification to prevent those who are not graduates in agriculture or related fields from using the title 'Agriculturist.'
