The Supreme Court area and its surroundings, including the International Crimes Tribunal, have been placed under tight security ahead of the verdict in former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s war crimes case. From Sunday evening, law enforcement and intelligence agencies have been on high alert. A coordinated security plan has been implemented to prevent any unlawful activities by the Bangladesh Awami League, whose operations have been prohibited on the day.

Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, security advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs, told journalists on Sunday that there is no expectation of disorder regarding the verdict. However, extra precautions have been taken nationwide, including in the Supreme Court area.

To prevent potential attacks on the day by the Awami League’s nationwide shutdown, police headquarters have issued special instructions to superintendents of police (SPs). Law enforcement units, including RAB, police, BGB, military, and intelligence agencies, will be visible at every corner of the capital. Multiple layers of security have been established around the Supreme Court and its vicinity.

In addition, 12 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) platoons have been deployed across the capital and surrounding districts to maintain law and order. Checkpoints have been reinforced, foot and mobile patrols increased, and continuous intelligence monitoring will be conducted. Hotels, motels, messes, and residences identified through intelligence will be under red alert. Instructions have also been given to prevent Awami League leaders and activists from entering Dhaka.
