The Supreme Court of Bangladesh has tightened nighttime security at its premises, making it mandatory for anyone entering the court complex between 11pm and 6am to carry valid identification.

The measure follows reports of unauthorised individuals entering the premises at night, raising security concerns at the country’s highest court.

In a notice issued by the Supreme Court administration and published on its official website, High Court Division Registrar Muhammad Nurul Amin Biplob said the court is a key national installation and the highest institution in the country’s judicial system.

The notice said the chief justice and judges of both the Appellate Division and the High Court Division conduct judicial proceedings in courtrooms across the Supreme Court complex.

Ensuring their safety, along with that of lawyers involved in court proceedings, is therefore a priority, it added.

The administration said instructions had previously been issued requiring people to carry their respective identification cards when entering the premises. However, recent incidents involving the entry of unexpected individuals at night have raised fresh concerns about security.

Under the latest directive, anyone entering the Supreme Court complex between 11pm and 6am for urgent reasons has been asked to present a national identity card or official identification to security personnel or law enforcement officers on duty.

The notice urged all concerned to cooperate with the authorities in maintaining security across the Supreme Court premises.
