Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that a joint force will take immediate action in response to the recent attack by river pirates on a police camp in Gozaria, Munshiganj.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Shubhaddha Canal re-excavation project in Keraniganj on Tuesday morning, Chowdhury condemned the attack and vowed swift justice.

On Monday, August 25, river pirates opened fire on patrol police members stationed at a temporary camp in Munshiganj. The police retaliated in self-defense, resulting in an exchange of gunfire that lasted nearly thirty minutes. Authorities have yet to make any arrests in connection with the incident.

Chowdhury emphasized that the joint forces will take prompt measures to address the use of looted weapons in the assault on the police camp. He also issued a stern warning against land grabbers and canal encroachers in the Shubhaddha Canal area, stressing the need for community resistance against such illegal activities.

“There are many land grabbers in this area. We must come together to prevent canal pollution and encroachment,” Chowdhury said.

At the same event, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, announced plans to reinforce canal banks with embankments to prevent further encroachment.
