A court has sent Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip on a four-day remand in the murder case filed over the death of former Air Force flight lieutenant K M Tahsif Souri.

On Saturday (October 31) afternoon, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasib Ullah Pias issued the order after a hearing. Police had earlier sought a seven-day remand for questioning him.

In the remand application, police said Dip needed to be questioned to unravel the mystery of the incident and verify his involvement. They also sought custody to establish the motive behind the killing, the identities of others involved, the evidence used, and the whereabouts of Tahsif’s motorcycle. Identifying the actual place of the killing was another stated purpose of the remand, the application said.

Police further claimed in the application that preliminary investigation had found information about Dip’s involvement in the killing. However, his statement in court on these allegations, and the final outcome of the investigation, have not yet been made public.

Tahsif went missing on the evening of October 27 after leaving home at Dip’s call. The next afternoon, the River Police recovered his body from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in Uttarkhan. He was identified through the iPhone in his pocket.

Over Tahsif’s death, his father, K M Enayetul Karim, filed a murder case against unidentified persons at Uttarkhan police station on the night of October 30. Police later showed Dip, who was in custody for questioning, as arrested in that case. The River Police are investigating the case.
