Taking refuge in Islam in everything is not right: Home Minister
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that Islami Bank is not Islam, Mirza Fakhrul Islam is not Islam, and Jamaat-e-Islami is also not Islam. "It is not right to take refuge in Islam in everything," he said while responding to opposition criticism in the National Parliament on Tuesday, June 9.
Responding to questions from the opposition, the home minister said Bangladesh Bank can grant exemptions to everyone from the chairman to the board of directors under the Bank Company Act. If any question is to be raised on this matter, the law must be amended.
He alleged that a particular group is orchestrating unrest from behind the scenes, posing as "customers" with the aim of creating chaos in the bank. The opposition should play the role of opposition, there is no objection to that. "But do not repeatedly mislead people by conducting campaigns from behind the scenes and outside," he said.
The home minister assured that the shares of legitimate shareholders of Islami Bank will be properly transferred. Additionally, a fair investigation will be conducted against Nabil Group and others who took money from the bank and have not returned it.
He also said that the issue of 9,000 employees who were unlawfully dismissed from the bank in the past will also be brought under investigation.
