Tamal becomes new CRAB president, Badshah GS
Mirza Mehedi Tamal of Bangladesh Pratidin has been elected as the president of the executive committee of the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) and MM Badshah of Bangla TV has been elected as the general secretary.
Voting was held throughout the day at the Nasrul Hamid Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in Segunbagicha in the capital on Friday (January 10). After the counting of votes, the names of the elected were announced in the evening by senior journalist Abu Taher, chairman of the election management committee.
A total of 25 candidates contested the elections for president, general secretary and other posts.
A total of 298 voters were registered in this election. Of them, 286 exercised their franchise. Mirza Mehedi Tamal got 128 votes for the post of president while his nearest rival Mahbub Alam Lablu received 95 votes.
MM Badshah received 181 votes for the post of GS and his nearest rival SM Nuruzzaman received 104 votes.
In addition, Umar Faruq Alhadi was elected as vice-president with 159 votes while his nearest rival Mizanur Rahman (Masum Mizan) received 120 votes.
Sajjad Mahmud Khan was elected as organising secretary with 158 votes. His nearest rival Saif Bablu received 94 votes.
Md Mahmudul Hasan received 155 votes for the post of Law and Welfare Secretary and his closest rival Sheikh Kalimullah received 116 votes.
On the other hand, Wasim Siddiqui was elected as the office secretary, Nihal Hasnain as the publicity and publication secretary, Rakibul Islam Manik as the sports and cultural secretary, Md Jasim Uddin as the training and information technology secretary, and Habibullah Mizan as the international secretary. All of them were elected without any contest.
Zia Khan came first with the highest number of 203 votes for the post of executive members. Imran Rahman came second with 187 votes, and Mohammad Zakaria came third with 75 votes.
