Tarique Rahman becomes voter of Dhaka-17 constituency

Ahead of the national parliamentary election and referendum scheduled for February 12, 2026, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has been registered as a voter. The Election Commission approved the inclusion of his name in the voter list a day after the registration formalities were completed.

On Sunday, December 28, Election Commission public relations director Ruhul Amin Mallik confirmed the matter.

He said the honourable Election Commission has approved the inclusion of Tarique Rahman’s name in the voter list.

Earlier on Saturday, Tarique Rahman and his daughter Zaima Rahman went to the Election Commission office in Agargaon, where they completed the necessary procedures for national identity card registration and voter enlistment.

Tarique Rahman and Zaima Rahman have been registered as voters in the Dhaka-17 constituency under ward 19 of Dhaka North City Corporation, covering the Gulshan area. Their address for voter registration has been listed as house number 196, Gulshan-2.

On Saturday, EC secretary Akhtar Ahmed had said that the voter registration process for Tarique Rahman and his daughter had been completed and that the commission would take a decision on the matter on Sunday.

He added that under Section 15 of the Voter Registration Act 2009, the Election Commission has the authority to enlist any eligible adult as a voter, and their names have been included in the voter list following the commission’s decision.
