Tarique Rahman, daughter set to return home on Dec 25 morning
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on the morning of December 25, ending more than 17 years in exile, party officials confirmed.
According to Abdus Sattar, personal secretary to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, the aircraft carrying Rahman will land in Dhaka shortly after 11:00am. He will travel from London to Sylhet before proceeding to the capital, accompanied by his daughter.
Earlier, on December 12, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced at a press briefing that Rahman’s return was expected on December 25, subject to all arrangements being finalized.
Tarique Rahman left Bangladesh in September 2008, shortly after being released from prison following 18 months of detention during the military-backed caretaker government that took power in January 2007. He had been arrested in connection with corruption cases before departing for London with his family.
